Traffic island Mistelbach, May 2013
The installation deals with the fact that businesses continue to relocate to the periphery of metropolitan areas even though this practice has been criticized for some years now. This results in architecturally mostly unsightly shopping malls, while in cities small businesses close down for a lack of customers. The candy pavilion brings back memories to passers-by of childhood grocery shops, while it is at the same time a critical statement concerning the preference of shopping centres for kitsch and fake history. Situated at the heart of a traffic island – the pavilion is not accessible – the uselessness of the shop becomes ever more clear.
