"Operation Figurini" was a mobile exhibition including 800 participants, who in turn became part of a "social sculpture". A total of 112 scientists and artists equipped eight market stalls designed for the occasion with literature and art works (multiples). Diderot's "Encyclopédie" served as a model for this portrait of a city. In the course of six weeks, the exhibition toured three Viennese markets.
The term "Figurini" designates a marketer who peddled little madonnas and other manufactured small plaster figures on Viennese markets during the first half of the 19th century.

«Operation Figurini» war ein mobiles Ausstellungsprojekt an dem 800 Personen mitarbeiteten, die damit auch Teil einer «sozialen Skulptur» wurden. Insgesamt 112 Wissenschafter und Künstler bestückten die acht dafür gebauten Marktstände mit Texten und Kunstwerken (Multiples). Dabei diente Diderots «Encyclopédie» als methodisches Vorbild. Im Laufe von sechs Wochen wanderte dieses Stadtportrait über drei Wiener Märkte.
Der Figurinimann bot in der Biedermeierzeit auf Wiens Märkten kleine Madonnen und andere seriell gefertigte Gipsfiguren feil.
